Tasmania's North and North West are the best kept secret in Australian tourism. Home to the very best vineyards the country has to offer, a UNESCO recognised local food scene, breathtaking scenery, ancient forests and stunning beaches. Travellers could spend a lifetime exploring this region but if they don't have a lifetime to spare spend a few days getting to know this under visited part of the world and see why Tasmanian's have kept in under wraps for so long

Day 1: Launceston & Evandale

Accommodation: Launceston (Hotel Verge or Stillwater Seven)

  • Take an early morning walk to explore Launceston (Launnie, if you're a local) on foot. There are some great trails and gardens at Cataract Gorge. In summer The Gorge swimming pool offers a refreshing end to a hike.

  • Head out to Evandale, a beautifully preserved Georgian/Victorian-era village with sandstone cottages and tree lined streets. Lunch at the Clarendon Arms pub or bakery before taking the self-guided heritage walk around town.

  • Return to Launceston for pre-dinner drinks at St John Craft Beer or Du Cane Brewery then dinner at Black Cow Bistro (great Tasmanian steak) or Bluestone Kitchen for exceptional local dishes.

Day 2: Tamar Valley Wine Region.

  • With over 40 wineries in the Tamar Valley Wine Region you could spend weeks exploring them all – stop at well known cellar doors such as Josef Chromy Wines or Jansz Tasmania or opt for the lesser known gems such as  Swinging Gate, Winterbrook, Iron Pot Bay, and Moores Hill.

  • The Tamar Valley Wine Centre at Exeter is a good option to taste a range of local wines and great food.

  • With so many wineries to visit (and so much wine to drink!) this region is best experienced on a guided tour with Luxury Golf and Scenic Tours.

  • Optional side trip to visit Visit Ashgrove Cheese for tastings and farm-fresh produce.

  • After Trowunna head to Sheffield, the "Town of Murals," and explore its street art, quirky shops and stock up on water and snacks for the Cradle Mountain walk

  • Take the scenic drive to Cradle Mountain via Gowrie Park and Cethana with stunning view of the imposing Mount Roland, Mount Claude and Mount Vandyke. For the keen walkers there is a 2 hour (return) walk to summit Mount Claude.

  • There are many great walks at Cradle Mountain. Try the short Enchanted Walk (30 min) or Dove Lake Circuit  (2hrs).
